Anthony joined YMCA Key College in 2016. Over the last 5 years, he has completed Level 1 and 2 Hospitality and Catering and is a month away from finishing his Digital Skills & IT course.
After leaving school with no qualifications, Anthony wanted to ensure he chose courses that gave him life skills.
“I’m not sure what I want to do for work in the future, but I knew that I wanted to learn life skills like cooking and computers which would help me be independent.”
In 2017, Anthony also moved into YMCA Derbyshire’s accommodation on London Road due to living in care homes for most of his young life.
“I never got in to trouble when I was in foster care, I didn’t see the point in making the situation a bad one. If you do stupid things, it leads to stupid outcomes.”
During his time at YMCA Key College, Anthony has also achieved Level 2 in Maths and English.
Moving forward, Anthony has been accepted onto a pathways programme at Derby University, starting in September 2021. The programme will lead him to complete a History degree which starts in 2022.
Anthony will also be moving to independent living when he begins his studies as he has been offered a place in student accommodation.
“I’m still unsure of what I want to do as work after university, my biggest goal at the moment is keeping my room tidy!”
We are so proud of how far Anthony has come and all he has achieved, a very inspirational young man. Well done Anthony.
