What is Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)?

Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) is all about helping you make the right choices for your future – whether that’s completing another college course, starting an apprenticeship, or finding a job.

You’ll get lots of support throughout the year to help you feel confident and prepared for what comes next.

How IAG Helps You Plan Your Future

Personalised Support

  • You’ll have your own careers folder where you can keep track of your goals, achievements, and plans.

  • Regular reviews with your tutor give you a chance to talk about your progress and next steps.

  • You’ll also have a personal guidance meeting with the Careers Coordinator to get one-to-one advice that’s just for you.

Getting Ready for Work

  • Take part in mock interviews to build confidence and practise how to present yourself to employers.

  • Join CV workshops to create a professional CV that shows off your skills and experience.

  • Get involved in employer activities days to learn what different jobs are really like and what skills employers look for.

Exploring Opportunities

  • Visit Jobs Fairs to meet employers, colleges, and training providers – a great way to see what’s out there.

  • Go on Further Education visits to explore colleges and universities and find out which courses interest you.

  • Keep an eye on the IAG Calendar, which lists all the exciting events, workshops, and opportunities happening through the year at YMCA Key College.

Why Does IAG Matter?

All these experiences help you:

  • Make informed choices about your future.

  • Gain confidence in your abilities.

  • Develop important life and employability skills.

  • Feel ready and motivated for your next step after YMCA Key College.

IAG helps you discover your options, build your confidence, and plan a future that’s right for you.

What is a typical IAG session?

There is no typical session, an IAG session will vary depending on the needs of our learners. We can offer 1-2-1 chats with our learners or workshops with small groups. We have a careers coordinator who will provide a lot of the information, but we will also have external speakers and organise visits to local organisations to enhance our learners understanding.
