At YMCA Key College, you’ll learn practical skills through vocational courses, with supportive learning for young people aged 16–18, and up to 24 with an EHCP.

Welcome to Key College
We believe that every young person should have the opportunity to fulfil their potential. We simply provide suitable learning courses, the right environment and highly-qualified and dedicated tutors to make sure this happens.
We offer courses in Childcare, Hospitality & Catering, Practical Work Skills, Health & Social Care, and Sports, Fitness & Health.
At campuses in Derby, and Ilkeston, we provide a range of accredited full-time education for young people aged 16-18, and, if the student has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), up to the age of 24.
We are proud of our links with many local businesses, enabling us to offer our learners relevant practical work experience and volunteer opportunities. Our highly qualified and experienced team has been delivering high-quality training across Derby and Derbyshire for over 10 years. We are proud to be rated an Ofsted Good training provider, and hold a Matrix accreditation for the high quality of the information, advice and guidance we provide for our learners.

Our six successful interns were presented with certificates of achievement by Jon, our store manager whose congratulatory speech praised their dedication, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. He then presented each graduate with a certificate to mark their success.
The Supported Internship is a partnership between Asda, Derby City Council, Derbyshire Business Education Partnership, DFN Project SEARCH and YMCA Derbyshire. The programme supports young people aged 16 to 24 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) who aspire to a career in retail, helping them to develop the skills, experience and confidence needed for employment, alongside studying for Functional Skills qualifications in English and Maths.
After two successful years, the internship programme at our Derby store has now come to an end, but there is plenty to celebrate. We’re delighted that Ali, a 2024–25 graduate, has secured a permanent role in our Click & Collect team, and we’re also pleased to say that Simon, the Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer, will be staying with us as a Driver. 🎉
Congratulations to all of our graduates, and thank you to everyone who has supported the programme over the past two years. We wish our interns every success for the future.– Rosie, Asda community champion
